Traveling to the Piedmont

General Information and Reminders

Don’t forget your passport & European charging adapters!

This is an international wedding, so you must have a valid passport that does not expire within six months after traveling. For example, if you fly back to the U.S. on June 1, 2025, your passport must not expire until after December 1, 2025. If you need to get a new passport or renew an existing passport, we recommend you apply as soon as possible.

Additionally, remember that European power outlets are different than in the U.S… do not forget to pack Type C (ungrounded) or Type F (grounded with third prong) travel adapters so you can charge your phones/laptops/etc. while overseas.

Plan Ahead! Make sure you know how you’ll get around.

The most flexible and affordable way to get to and around the region is via rental car. Uber/Lyft do not operate in the area and Taxis must be booked in advance. Driving in Italy is just like driving in the U.S., but remember to request an automatic transmission car if you are not comfortable renting a manual! Please see below for tips when renting a car internationally.

If you do not feel comfortable renting a car, you may hire a private driver although it is significantly more expensive. 2024 quotes indicate €400-475 one way from the Milan Malpensa Airport to the region. Once in the region, you will need to book a Taxi in advance for meals or activities, as Taxis are not readily available.

Regardless of your transit decision from the airport, we will provide transportation to La Villa Hotel from the suggested accommodations for the Welcome Dinner and Wedding.

  • There are several airports nearby depending if you are traveling from the US or from another part of Europe:

    • Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP): ~1.5-hour drive. Nonstops from ATL, BOS, EWR, JFK, ORD, and PHL in the United States *Most common option*. Airlines include American (JFK/PHL), Delta (ATL/BOS/JFK), Emirates (JFK), Neos (*low-cost carrier, JFK), and United (EWR/ORD)

    • Torino Caselle Airport (TUR): ~1.5-hour drive. No nonstops from the United States, but 1 stop is possible if flying through major European hubs

    • Milano Linate Airport (LIN): ~1:45-hour drive. This is the closest airport to Milan city center. It offers flights throughout Europe on budget and full service airlines

    • Genova City Airport (GOA): ~1.5-hour drive. No nonstops from the United States, but 1 stop is possible if flying through major European hubs

    • Once you arrive in the region, the best way to get to your hotel is by renting a vehicle. It takes about one hour 30 minutes from either the Milan Malpensa Airport or Genoa City Airport. We recommend choosing an American rental agency such as Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, or Sixt, solely because their customer service will be easiest to navigate. Autoslash has great rates!

      • If driving in Italy as a U.S. citizen, you must get an International Driving Permit from your local AAA location. They may ask to see this when you pick up your vehicle

      • Driving in Italy is similar to the U.S. (on the right side of the road), but you should be aware of the strict speed limits (they use kilometers per hour...), speed cameras, toll road system, and highway driving etiquette. We found this link to be helpful!

      • We recommend renting a gas vehicle, as EV chargers are limited in the region. Additionally, double check that the vehicle you rent is an automatic, unless you’re an expert at driving manuals :) - many of the cars you’ll find on rental car sites are manual by default

      • We recommend having a debit card available for filling up gas

  • It is possible to hire a private driver for airport transfers and chauffeur service around the region; however, it can be quite pricey.

Please reach out to hotel to organize.
